My translation work for French activist philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy

The Empire and the Five Kings was published by Henry Holt in February 2019 and made the bestseller list of the New York Times in the following month. My translation of his Genius of Judaism was published by Random House in 2017. To counter the wave of nationalist populism in the Europe, Lévy presented his one-act, one-actor play, Looking for Europe, in 24 cities in Spring 2019, with the script modified to respond to the circumstances in each city. He performed my English translations in five cities: Amsterdam, Prague, Copenhagen, Dublin, and London. For a decade now I’ve translated Lévy’s opinion pieces for major world newspapers, including a six part series on “forgotten wars” for the Wall Street Journal. These were republished in book form as The Will to See (Yale, 2021), preceded by a very personal introduction, and a companion website by the same name. Our first collaboration for Yale was The Virus in the Age of Madness (2020). In 2022 and 2023, I translated the subtitles and voiceovers for Lévy’s three documentaries on the war in Ukraine.
